The action RPG scene is packed with outstanding titles right now, making it tough for any new release to stand out in such a competitive space.

However, one upcoming title looks ready to break through — and it even offers a free demo download that fans of the genre won’t want to miss.

Anima: Gate of Memories I & II Remaster is a third-person action RPG that reimagines the world of Gaia, originally from the Anima: Beyond Fantasy tabletop RPG series.

According to the developers, “Anima intertwines two destinies — one belonging to a legendary monster and a mysterious girl who has lost all memory of her past, and the other to an immortal soul doomed to roam the world forever.”

Their stories collide in unexpected ways as they find themselves caught in a hidden conflict — a shadow war where they’ll unwillingly take opposing sides.

The first Anima: Gate of Memories game debuted in 2016, followed by The Nameless Chronicles in 2018. While both titles earned a decent reception, they never quite reached mainstream success. The upcoming remaster could change that, offering refined visuals, smoother combat, and new content to help the series reach its full potential.

One of the most impressive aspects of the games has always been the combat system — a fluid, fast-paced experience filled with dynamic combos and aggressive enemies. The unique dual-character system allows players to switch between characters instantly, chaining attacks together for even more devastating results.

Even players unfamiliar with the tabletop RPG source material will find the game’s story approachable, with deep lore presented at a comfortable pace that keeps you engaged without feeling lost.

The RPG mechanics are equally strong, letting players develop distinct skill trees for each character, unlocking a variety of abilities as the adventure unfolds.

While there’s no confirmed PS5 release date yet, you can download a free demo right now to get an early taste of the action.

Meanwhile, PC players can dive in sooner — both the demo and the full release on November 7 are already confirmed for that platform.
